Multiplexers are designed to provide reliable fiber optic transmission of video and data signals in the demanding subsea applications of ROV, robust defense systems and other platforms operating in harsh environments. We offer support for Focal and Prizm products.
Multiplexers
To exploit the full bandwidth of fiber, multiplexing combines many signals of various types — video, serial data, network data, control lines — onto one optical fiber. Multiplexers that combine a number of signals electrically are typically called time division multiplexers (TDM); discrete parts of each input signal is assigned a time slot in the outgoing data stream. We also support a wide range of TDM options that allow multiple electrical channels to be multiplexed onto one or more optical fibers.
We also support multiplexers that combine a number of optical signals onto one or two fibers. These multiplexers use wave division multiplexers (WDM) because they transmit different signals on different wavelengths of light on the same optical fiber.
Both multiplexing techniques can be used separately or together to simplify optical transmission systems and reduce cost, improve performance, reduce weight and improve reliability. Multiplexed systems also simplify system upgrades since numbers of channels and channel bandwidth is a function of the electronics rather than the transmission line or components. These multiplexers accommodate the ever-increasing data rates needed for digital video and industrial data protocols, as well as high speed networks such as Ethernet and IEEE-1394 (Firewire).
Focal Multiplexers
The expanded Prizm product line now gives customers more fiber optic and wireless video and data multiplexer solutions for harsh environments. Combined with our fiber optic rotary joints and slip rings, our technology and experience allows us to support a variety of custom and standard modems in operation around the world.
We can provide modules for use in an OEM system to provide optimum flexibility. In addition, we offer standard modules or combinations in a stand-alone package for bench top or other environments.
We offer fiber optic modems and multiplexer systems, a variety of standard interfaces, including video (NTSC, PAL, Y/C, RGB, S Video, etc.) data (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 and/or various custom protocols with rates up to 10 Mbps) Ethernet, sonar, hydrophone, radar and variety of custom interfaces.
